With the exception of the two familiar forced-induction engines, the 2012 Audi A6 is a clean-sheet design. Re-engineering the front differential enabled the front axle to move way forward, reducing the front overhang to achieve a more contemporary design aesthetic. Fuel economy is up thanks to extensive use of aluminum in the body, automatic engine start/stop, an aggressive powertrain friction-reduction program and the extra gears in the ZF eight-speed automatic. Inside the roomier cabin, available technology includes a color heads-up display, night vision, radar-based cruise control and a brilliantly clear NAV display.
